Sharing Stories
Our expressive writing sessions will be offered again starting Wednesday February 5th from 5:30 – 7:00 pm. I hope those of you reading this will consider dropping in and joining us. I hear from members that they are interested in writing, but feel intimidated by it and don’t think of themselves as “writers.” Please consider this; if you or a loved one are on a cancer journey like many of us, you do have stories to share, and that is what our group is all about. As facilitator I strive to create an open, comfortable environment where people can be true to themselves, and “write what needs to be written.” Members are often surprised and entertained by what people offer up and it can be a very cathartic and rewarding experience to hear that other people have similar thoughts, joys, fears and worries, or a different perspective.
I bring along some inspirational prompts like poems, photos, music, objects to start you off thinking and then we just write- no judgment, no grades, just our own free thoughts on paper. Some write about their life, their families, relationships, or their past. Some write about dreams, or mediations, and some write about their crazy day or something they saw. Expressing our unspoken thoughts and emotions on paper in an open and healing way helps relieve stress and calm our busy minds. It is a gift you can give yourself, just like meditation or yoga. Please come by and give it a try!
