Fearful, overwhelmed, uncertain, and numb – these are just some experiences people may have after hearing you have cancer. What should I do now? How do I get the best cancer therapies? What is my future? How will my family as well as friends cope and support me? How do I know what are the most pertinent questions to ask?

Research studies indicate that mind-body interventions in oncology can enhance healing. By incorporating mind-body support, people affected by cancer can experience a decrease in depression, a heightened sense of well-being and engagement in life, acquire better coping skills, experience less pain, less fatigue, and more energy—making it easier to handle stress and illness.

How does this happen? Each person contains the mind-body connection. “Mind does not dominate body, it becomes body—body and mind are one,” said Candace Pert, PhD, a scientific expert on the mind-body. Together, the mind and body create a joint collective that physically impacts health. Mind-body wellness not only supports moods and coping strategies, mind-body vitality also helps health and healing against cancer and other ailments.

Through four primary areas of programming – mindfulness, nutrition, movement and expressive arts - Wellness Within cultivates the mind-body connection for those coping with the trauma of cancer and their caregivers.  Learn and strengthen yourself by exploring these powerful mind-body strategies and develop them as daily self-care practices.

Our ongoing meditation and iRest classes offer those with cancer, after cancer, and support persons learn tools to effectively manage pain, stress, moods, fatigue, sleep and overall well-being. Walk away from these classes feeling relaxed, and equipped with mindfulness techniques to address stressors brought by cancer.

Feel how movement can profoundly heal trauma to the mind and body. Movement strengthens and supports almost every system in our bodies, enabling optimal healing. Putting your body in motion helps you release tension, clear stress, combat fatigue, and reconnect with your body. Classes are adaptive to varying energy levels suitable for all participants.

Discover how nutrition can boost your immune system and support optimal energy and health. We focus on strategies to reduce risk of cancer development or growth, address side-effects of chemotherapy, manage your diet after diagnosis, all without sacrificing taste. Classes may include a healthy meal or a live demonstration of food prep methods.

Explore verbal and nonverbal languages of your soul through creative media. Collaging, painting, writing, drawing, music, dance and knitting bring emotional release and self-awareness, leading us to be more emotionally available, and experience reductions in anxiety, stress, fear, fatigue and pain. Enjoy expressive arts in a non-judgmental environment focused on discovery and joy.
